I collect most of them, except the bad 1.0s and some of the 2.0s that were too expensive even when I started (I wasn't paying $120 for SSG or SS3 and I'm not paying $200 now).
I display based on saga. I don't buy multiples. I get why people would (I considered two Kid Gohans in particular) but I'd rather just have stick the character in the saga that I prefer to have them in. Like I'll have Kid Gohan in the Saiyan Saga with Piccolo. If they ever, say, release an Imperfect Cell and I want to depict that fight, well, that's a good opportunity for me to change up my display a little for a while. I like having reasons to repose figures and change displays instead of having them be static for long periods of time.
I usually only get major characters for any series that I collect. So protag and antag, maybe a side character I really liked. So I have Frieza and Cell but I don't want any other Cell forms. For DB I have my figs set up by arc in front of the manga. I don't buy multiples of a figure, but DB is, as we all know, an exception. I have a Goku for every form, and Awakening, MUI, and UI for battle damaged looks. Also, I like buying the 3rd party accessories and heads that people come out with. I have most Vegetas as well, but I don't have any Gohans or other side characters like 16 and 17. From this point forward, the only Goku I would need is an official SS2 one, and then who knows? Moro for sure, maybe a cool looking Heroes character like Towa with the fluffy hair. I'll be getting FF Frieza but I'll have to wait until they make the Bardock from Broly to complete that set up.
Anyone kind of depressed at the state of the line in terms of how they are dealing with character selection?
I mean, I am kind of miffed that Cobra's gotten the shaft. Destro's the only villain available, CC's an exclusive, Baroness is tied to a bike no one wants making her more expensive at retail, combined with the fact that she's only available at Target and most likely has been scalpt to hell and back meaning you'll have to pay $100+ for her. And same with Cobra Trooper, while the fucking Red god-damn Ninja is getting a mass retail release instead!
I really fucking hope we get an all villain wave soon. Zartan, Zarana, Major Bludd, Firefly, and Dr Mindbender to give the Joes people to fight.
That's the central reason why a lot of people have been dreading GI Joe going six inch.
That the money/wave assortment size would create a huge clusterfuck of only a handful of characters getting made. And Hasbro pissing people off either way with who get made in the scale.
Maybe HasLab can solve this problem: instead of making six inch scale vehicles, we get Hasbro doing once a year "fan
favorite" multi-packs with 3-5 figures made via crowdfunding.
The fact that we’ve gotten two waves and a ton of exclusives within like four months is insane. The PR Lightning line took FOREVER to get off the ground, it was like a four month break between wave 1 and 2 and there were zero multipacks at the time. The fact that people already have like 5-8 figures on average is nuts. Hasbro is really pushing this line hard, I wouldn’t sweat not having X villain yet or not being able to get X character. They clearly want everyone to have the five or six main Joes and a bunch of villains, they’re just building up to it.
The whole thing was a pain for me. The hinge orientation makes you think he'd be left-handed, same as Duke and Beach Head for some reason, but I couldn't get him shouldering the weapons properly because of the giant knife sheath in the way. And the vertical hinge on his left hand doesn't articulate well if it's plugged in all the way.
Also the shoulders are too small or imbedded too far into the torso, so he can't put his arms down at his sides all the way or reach around his bulky vest too well. I know I'm bitching a lot about what should be a fodder figure, but I was pretty excited for him by the artwork and everyone else's photos. Just disappointing that I don't enjoy messing around with him
